Kettering Town were made up, Rushden & Diamonds hauled back and Northampton Town knocked out on a night of mixed fortunes.
The Poppies maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a
1-0 win over Blue Square Premier pre-season title favourites Stevenage Borough.

Chris Beardsley's first-half strike was enough to make it seven games unbeaten for Mark Cooper's men
.

They have surprised many. And Cooper's hope that "I hope people don't take any notice of us" is unlikely to be heeded.

Things did not go so well for Diamonds who led until injury-time on their trek to Barrow before they were pegged back for a 1-1 draw.

Garry Hill described Paul Brown's late strike as "a big blow" having thought his side would take all three points courtesy of Leon Knight's goal on 27 minutes.

But if they thought they had it bad the Cobblers were even worse.

Just a week on from the Carling Cup heroics at Bolton Wanderers they were bundled out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 1-0 at home to Brighton.
