Drury: Still room for improvement

Corby Town boss Graham Drury has warned the rest of the league "we're not the finished article yet".
The Steelmen made everyone sit up and take notice on Saturday when they hammered in-form Swindon Supermarine 4-1 on their own patch.

That result lifted Corby up to second in the BGB Southern League Premier Division table ahead of the midweek matches.

But Drury is ensuring everyone keeps their feet on the ground as they
prepare to face another on-song side, Hemel Hempstead Town, at Rockingham Triangle tonight.

"I'm not getting carried away because we've only had five games and
there's a hell of a long way to go," he said.

"Swindon was only one game and one win and I think how we do against the likes of Halesowen Town and Chippenham Town will be the real barometer of how we are going as they are the benchmark in my opinion.

"But it's good to see us playing so well and confidence is a wonderful thing in football.

"That said, I know there is a lot more to come from this team. I still feel we can pass the ball a lot better than we did at Swindon and when we get our movement sorted we'll be even better."

Hemel Hempstead have made an impressive start to the season with just one defeat from their opening five games.

The difference, however, is that the Tudors have been far less spectacular in their matches – preferring solidity rather than flair.

Hemel have never scored more than once in their games so far – except against Farnborough Town when they drew a blank.

But, like the Steelmen, they have shared the goals around with a different scorer in every game. And while they have only scored four league goals this term they have also only conceded four.

However, they will be up against a Corby side that is verging on rampant in attack right now and will be hungry for more goals.

Of great encouragement to Steelmen fans would have been the fact that strike pair Steve Diggin and Matt Nolan both scored in the game – the first time they have notched in the same match.

They each now have three goals this season, as does Leon Hibbert, while his central midfield partner Steve Towers also got off the mark at Supermarine.

Drury was encouraged by another fine defensive display and Corby have now only conceded once in their last three games.

And he is likely to name an unchanged side for tonight's game – although Jon Stevenson is struggling with a groin injury so Will Fordham comes into the squad.

Corby from: Osborn, West, Bains, Warren, Duckett, Watt, Fordham, Towers, Hibbert, O'Halloran, Mettam, Hughes, Burgess, Diggin, Nolan, Stevenson, Battersby, Crockett.
