The message about safe parking seems to be getting through as many parents started the new term by leaving their cars away from the school gates.
Churchill Way, in Kettering;s Ise Lodge estate, is home to Millbrook Infant and junior School, Kingsley Special School and Rhymetime Nursery.

More than 1,000 youngsters attend the four sites and in the past there has been problems with parents ignoring signs outside the school.

The Evening Telegraph went out on Tuesday, the last day of the holidays, at about 3.15pm, to see how it compared to the first day of term yesterday.

And yesterday only a couple of cars were spotted flouting the parking rules, compared to none the day before.

Jean Barnes was collecting her daughter from the school yesterday and said that in the past there had been a problem.

She said: "It's not very bad at the moment but seems to be worse at St John's Road end."

Gill Carpenter was picking up her son from the junior school yesterday.

She said: "It's been quite good and there aren't a lot of people parking where they shouldn't."

Katherine Riddell was walking to her car, which was correctly parked, having collected her two sons from the junior school.

She said: "People still park on the zig-zag lines but not that many."

Millbrook Junior Headteacher Rob Ashley said: "We're pleased that parents are parking properly and hope that they carry on that way"

In 2006 the Evening Telegraph launched its Park Safe Be Safe campaign in a bid to encourage parents to park responsibility when dropping off or collecting children from schools. Let us know if there is irresponsible or dangerous parking outside your school.
